Climate in Crete

The climate in Crete is considered to be one of the mildest and healthiest in Europe. It is primarily temperate and the atmosphere can be humid depending on the proximity to the sea and the winter is mild. Snowfall is common on the mountains and rare near the coast. During the summer the temperature is between 20-30 and reaching 40 degrees occasionally. In the south the climate is so mild that tropical plants such as bananas are cultivated and with favorable weather conditions even subtropical plants such as avocado, mango can be developed. During the summer northwest winds are observed to alleviate the suffering caused by the heat and occasionally southern winds increase the average temperature.
